Racing
I drive by all the time from work along the 407 to Oakville. I run mainly onroad, I have a cat SX I want to fire up.. Is there any organized racing here? When are people running?

Thank you for your inquiry.
Unfortunately we are not running organized races at this time. We are in a situation where there are too few people stepping forward to firstly, maintain the track and then secondly, properly run a race event.
We are potentially looking at hosting some timed practice and enduro-style events which we can manage to run with the limited number of volunteer track staff that we have. Maintenance of the track running surface continues to be our first priority.
Sids Raceway will go in whatever direction the support of our clientele and volunteers dictates.
Race events similar to what we staged in the past (with multiple classes, heats and qualifiers) are always a possibility if we get more support in terms of track committee members and users.
Thank you for your support,
Sids Raceway

Re: Racing
The door is always open to people who are willing to help out and make a difference in our current situation.
Consider this an open invitation to come out and join a small but dedicated crew who are doing all that they can to keep Sid's Raceway open. We are there most Saturday mornings and Wednesday evenings working to keep the track available for all to enjoy.

Re: Racing
Not a shot a sids.. Its pretty sad in a city the size of TORONTO MISS and all suronding areas we can not drum up people to support this hobby. I use to race a GP speedway in Brampton years ago. Almost 20 years later I decide to get back into the hobby.. The Fastcats shuts down. Got the Cat to run becuase I saw Sids on the drive home from work. I would like to help out, however I dont live in Miss anymore. I rather support the cause of the track with good old cash.. I dont mind spending money to run where I know its organized. Its like going to Canadian tire to buy somthing or Home Depot. You get a highschool kid at CTC cheaper and More at HD but get some useful info (not much).
I have no interest at this point to drive out to Joes... I rather have a running with structure track around here..
As for helping out. I work shift work and with a new born.. and a wife like like making the house the money pit of reno and time., Its hard for me come out and work.. I just want to pay and get away and race with a bunch of people who want 2 race.
Thats my 2 cents. I have looked at your history pics and see you did at some point host some pretty good events.

Re: Racing
It's a very accurate observation to state; that in a city the size of Toronto & Mississauga there can't be more support for the hobby and the local tracks. There is no question that interest in 1/10th scale is a bit cool right now with the exception of Short Course. I am one of the volunteers at Sid's and have been a patron for 6 years. I decided this year to really get involved, and to help keep the track open. I have been there since day one when the first load of dirt arrived. I can tell you that there is a core group of individuals who work really hard to have a place that enthusiasts and newbies can come to play, practice and socialize; and its working! I am delighted to see new faces, and make new friends every week. A race of some kind is definitely one of our goals. The timing loop is installed and we are reacquainting ourselves with the software.
There is no question that time is at a premium in most peoples lives. If you can't help right now that's just fine. It's not a prerequisite to volunteer to come and enjoy the track. If you are keen on racing, as I am, you still need a place to practice and hone your skills. One day put the Schuey CAT in the car and drop by on your way home from work and enjoy a run with some of us. We would welcome the company. Keep an eye on offroadrc.ca to see when guys will be there. It's typically Wednesday evenings, and Saturdays for the regulars, but the track is used all week. We are always happy to make new acquaintances. Hope to see you there!

Unfortunately the timing loop is not installed and the track is in rough shape. I was there today. I think 1/10 needs a good place to get some good old fashioned racing going!!! Anyone else interested in 1/10 2wd, 4wd, truck or sc racing?

Re: Racing
I didiney get all dressed up fer nuthin..!!!!!
So whats a good day to have races ? any input would be great guys...
I know lots of guys are running 1/8 on weekends, so maby a week day ? Wed Thurs ?
If so when is a good time to start racing ? maby 6
Im not opposed to weekends theres lots of daylight to run qualifiers and mains I just want to have as many people out as we can... including the guys that have 1/10 but are running 1/8 also.
What kind of classes do people want ?
2 wheel buggy open
4 wheel buggy open
2 wheel truck open
Corr open ( any short course )
we could run trucks and corr together if we had to
AND....
lets not forget Micro 1/16 or 1/18 ( cheap for new people to get into r/c )
I hope people respond so we can get some racing started ...
The season runs on.......................and

The timing loop was installed about 2 weeks ago and tested shortly thereafter.

You're more than welcome to come out any Saturday morning and help us maintain the track surface. There is a shovel waiting with your name on it, LOL!

Re: Racing
The track is rough if your running a 1/10 buggy, the SC trucks have no problems. Even with the buggys, its only a couple spots that are issues, and that number has gone way down in the last 2 weeks. The track surface isnt an ideal type of dirt, but thats what there is to work with, and its only getting better. run the track, and find where its slippery. sweep the corners a little bit if you need too.
karma, we dont have that many visitors nevermind that many classes. today around 12 people came out, and 10 of those were SC trucks.
to start racing at 6 is too late, the garden centre where the track is closes at 8pm, but its open every day.
had lots of fun today guys.

Could you please refrain from posting false, misleading information? The timing sensor is buried under the surface and is clearly marked by the double florescent orange markings on the pipes to the left of the driver's stand as to it's whereabouts.
I was out today for 7 1/2 hours to work and play, and can easily say it was the best turnout yet. We had at least a dozen guys out, most with SC's and everyone was having a blast!! Not one person complained about the track condition, because afterall this is an off road, dirt track. I can confidently say that in the past, the track was built, and maintained by an enthusiastic group of racer's who not only ran the races, participated in them, and gave more than their fare share of labour to keep the facility open for everyone to enjoy. Myself, and others are each committing up to 10 hours a week of our own personal time to develop that same ethic, and camaraderie. The racing will come naturally when enough enthusiasts ban together to make it happen.
It is a fair assertion to request a racing facility be created for those who just want to show up, pay, race and leave.....fair enough. But to constantly criticize the track and the individuals who are working hard to try and make it happen completely undermines the entire venture. I would much rather see our energies being utilized in helping out; even if it's just friendly advice over a cup of coffee in the morning before work or practice commences. I think that would be a much better use of our time, instead of typing a volley of nonconstructive critiques on the internet; a realm where no one can go racing.
Sincerely 1/10

Re: Racing
I didn't get to run much today due to breakage, but I still had a blast.
Just to be in the company of like-minded individuals and to share some good times with them made it all worthwhile for me.
Thanks everybody!

Re: Racing
Best advice we can give you is to either start a new thread and post up your plans or RSVP on an already existing thread. We usually use Offroadrc for this activity.
